Some are better known than others, well off the beaten tourist track. It seems incomprehensible that the incredibly old city of Girona is so little visited, when compared to the Costa Brava nearby or the great metropolis of Barcelona, only 100km away. Furthermore, when one considers that it has one of the oldest, best conserved and most attractive medieval centres of the entire peninsular. Continue reading

Besalú, the ancient county town, with a walk around the lake at Banyoles.

Romanesque bridge in BesalúThe area covered by the old county of Besalú roughly coincides with the present region of La Garrotxa. Both tourists and passing travellers can enjoy the landscape here, which is full of natural and cultural charm: villages with a Medieval ambiance; the biggest fresh-water lake in Catalonia; intensely green woods and fields; or near Olot, an old volcanic area of exceptional beauty.
