Excursion in Barcelona Province: rural landscapes, small villages, Romanesque architecture, Catalan traditions and fine gastronomy.

Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de CaserresWhen staying in the big city, having seen most of the principal sights, one often wonders what there is to see and discover in the surrounding area, to get a glimpse of what’s outside the city. In that case I recommend a very interesting and varied day-trip around Barcelona province. Only  90kms. away we come to gorgeous rural natural scenery, great historic and artistic heritage and the chance to learn plenty about the culture, language and mentality of Catalan people.

RupitCome with me and visit some of these little old villages, such as Folgueroles, birthplace of Catalonia’s national poet, Jacint Verdaguer; or Rupit or Taverte, which are tiny picturesque hamlets built entirely of natural stone; the very interesting Medieval city centre of Vic, with its incredibly important Episcopal Museum, which houses the third largest collection of Romanesque art in the world; the Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Caserres, set in its impressive location.  All this can be found in the midst of a landscape which alternates between large farm houses and luxuriant woodlands. You’d also have the chance to sample fine Catalan gastronomy in some of the excellent restaurants to be found in the region.

Sanctuary of CabreraAnd should you wish another option to your Barcelona city tours and want to go on a little outing into the countryside, we can easily combine this trip with one to the Sanctuario de Cabrera, at the top of Puigsacalm or to the heights of Collsacabra (do look at the respective proposed trips on this same website). Just ask me please!

Full day return trip by car, bus of minibus, including collection from your accommodation.

Distance from Barcelona: approx.. 90kms. Trip length approx.. 1½ hours.
